Kerfuffle

The lake has filled with water after all the rain these past few days. But, today was very windy which made a long lens not the best choice. Fortunately it was bright allowing for faster shutter speeds.

Without the reach though I would not have got this shot of a belted kingfisher. It had just landed with a catch which I captured, but the frame was not sharp. This was a first for me, so I know to be on the lookout now. It looks quite small, so probably an young adult male.

They emit a characteristic rattling call, hence a small group of them is known as a kerfuffle.

Extra: Unmistakable. Excited as I spot the return of a wood duck.
