Life through the lens...

Remembering Joe Cox

Just could not believe our luck. After a poor weather forecast we have had a glorious sunny day. A bit of a chilly wind but that didn’t matter.

So 13 of the Pudsey Ramblers set off on our Luddite Trail. Starting out from Hartshead Church, and following the trail down to Cleckheaton and the site of Cartwright’s Mill.
Passed the house where Patrick Brontë and his wife Maria started their married life, and where there two eldest daughters were born.
Maria in 1814 and Elizabeth in 1815.
See extra.

We stopped at the Luddite statue for a group photograph, ( see extra) before following the path past the Shears Pub where the Luddites used to meet.

We stopped at the newly opened Joe Cox Community Wood. Started in 2019 and opened in March 2020, in memory of Joe . She was MP for Batley and Spen when her life. was cut short as she was murdered in 2016.
Plenty of picnic benches were perfect for our picnic.
Some of the beautiful wild flowers we found are my collage for today.

After 5.5 miles we finished off with tea and cakes at Bennett’s Cafe. Glad we booked a table as it was packed.
Everyone enjoyed the walk ( except one person who couldn’t find Hartshead Church, although only a mile away!) They were fascinated by all the history, and really enjoyed the cafe afterwards.

So it’s feet up and an early night for us.

See more about the walk on my Blip 27/03/23
