Roman Heads

We took a field trip to Rome today to view the real Roman mosaics at the Palazzo Massimo. An entire floor is dedicated to mosaics and frescos from Roman villas. We now know what to look at in a fresco. Today’s main blip is a closeup showing the detail of an immense mosaic floor. It is a boy riding a mythical creature. Another floor was dedicated to portraits…halls filled with busts—I believe this is where all the missing heads of the great marble torsos have come to rest. Extras: Papposileno, Dionysus’ tutor, a wild man; marble. The Boxer; bronze. (I cropped out the body to stay with the head theme…ha). All date from the 2nd c.. AC, BC, DC…aaah?
