Good Friday

I escaped from my spaniel sitting duties for an hour today to photograph this stained glass crucifixion window in Watlington. Although it has no maker's mark or signature this is as Charles Kempe as you can get. Kempe's works are characterised by ornate decoration filling every available space (no matter how unlikely in the context of the image) typically with a preponderance of 'pearls'. And then there is the controversial depiction of the Christ figure as a white man with blonde hair.
