Thatch

Friday is cycling day and what a beautiful sunny day it’s been. We went to the Lenches an area known for its black and white cottages and orchards.
It must be rethatching time because we saw two lots of work going on.
The main photo was taken in Salford Priors where the thatch was being repaired on one of the houses on the Main Street. I screeched to a stop and asked if I could take a photo, they must be used to being asked and were very happy to let me.
Extra. In Church Lench we stopped and chatted to another thatcher who was repairing the North side of a roof which hadn’t been repaired since the 1960s.  The North side , out of the sun and prevailing wind lasts longer than the sunnier aspect.
He said if he were doing the whole cottage, which was quite small, you would be looking at about £50,000 cost and it would take about four months.
The other photo is an orchard near Hillers Farm Shop.
The Lenches are a group of villages in North Worcestershire, it means rising ground.
