Yellow Nonea

A rather cool and grey day for our BCN Wildlife Trust Peterborough Local Group walk round Bainton, but the rain held off and the flowers were looking wonderful.

We spent two hours discovering the rich mix of native and introduced plant species that makes up the Bainton village flora, examining everything from tiny mosses, three species of fern, lots of dainty winter annuals and a whole host of spring bulbs and perennials.

There were four forms of Sweet Violet (including the rare Viola odorata var. sulfurea), a multitude of Primroses and a plant of Yellow Nonea, a native of eastern Europe which is a recent arrival in the village, not to mention leaf rosettes of both Bee Orchid and Pyramidal Orchid.
