Giacometti at the Louisiana ...

... that is, at the Louisiana Museum near Copenhagen. It's a museum devoted to post-1945 art, in a superb modern building surrounded by sculptures, in a rural setting overlooking the ocean. It has an excellent restaurant to boot, where we had dinner (it's open till 10 pm).

After eating we walked through the final part of the permanent collection, and came upon their superb assortment of Giacometti's (some two dozen). This image (vivid in large) shows just the side of a two-story gallery; there is a "Standing Man" out of the frame to the right, and I'm under a balcony overlooking the view to the trees and water in the rear. The light from the setting sun was marvelous; don't miss the reflection of the "Walking Man" in the full-height window behind. The group of smaller figures on the right is titled "The Forest". Giacometti is one of my favorite artists, and this display is the best one of him that I can remember (even thinking of special exhibitions).

We also saw the two special exhibitions. "Pop Art Design" was absolutely top-class, reviewing the influence of Pop Art since its inception over half a century ago. A intriguing show by the contemporary American Tara Donovan (b. 1969; her first in Europe) consisted of eight works from small to room-sized built up from everyday objects such as buttons or tape.

It was altogether a wonderful experience. The museum is excellent in every aspect--not to be missed by any art lover visiting Copenhagen.
