National Museum Of Costa Rica

Due to the 7 hour time difference we were all awake very early this morning and so went for a pre breakfast wander. I was surprised at how many people were around and actually felt quite uncomfortable with the amount of homeless people and were were approached more than once by people asking for money.

After breakfast we headed to the National Museum, with it being Easter Sunday, a lot was closed including some of the museums. The National Museum, housed in this beautiful old barracks was open and really interesting with lots of pre-Columbian artefacts and information about recent history including that since 1948 civil war, Costa Rica has no army.

We had a quick visit to the Artisan Market and a huge lunch in a very friendly restaurant before joining David on his free walking tour.

He took around old and new San Jose for 2 hours giving us lots of interesting information about the place, the parks and the buildings, I especially liked the school that looked to be made out of pieces of a Braithwaite water tank.

We went to bed very early and very tired but with a better understanding of San Jose and life in Costa Rica.
