Turkey tail mountain

Had a walk with my youngest son Joe and Albi this morning (it’s them up a tree trunk in extras). First we visited Wistow Wood, a rather lovely ancient wood owned by the Wildlife Trust. There were masses of bluebells on the verge of bursting into bloom, white wood anemones, primroses, celandines and fungi. Truly lovely. This collection of turkey tails, King Alfred’s cakes and moss was attached to a fallen trunk that looked like a mountain.
Albi was impressed too, especially with the opportunities for a quick chomp on a stick.

Then we drove over to nearby Upwood meadows, with its gorgeous fields, one in particular populated by cowslips.

More about these fungi here https://www.kew.org/read-and-watch/king-alfreds-cakes-fungus and https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife-explorer/fungi/turkeytail

The rain arrived with a vengeance an hour or so after we got home. It’s too cold! Perfect for delicious food in the warm. Joe is a fine dining chef and baker so this week the food here is GOOOOD! Stay warm and dry dear blippers :-)
