What's That Smell?

In our neighborhood, that's probably the smell of our native Wild Garlic, Allium canadense var. canadense. This beautiful, albeit odiferous, little plant is in full bloom. The local insects including our native bees are thrilled, as am I! Honeybees really don't care for it, which is just as well since I can't even imagine garlic flavored honey! These are blooming in a neighbor's yard and when the breeze is just right, let's just say that you can follow your nose to find them! Many folks see them as weeds but the entire plant is edible and packed full of minerals as well as Vitamins A and C. They have been used to treat too many medical conditions to name here.
