Spring Sunset

You are living the life
you wanted as if you'd known
what that was but of course
you didn't so you'd groped
toward it feeling for what
you couldn't imagine, what
your hands couldn't tell you,
for what that shape could be.

from April Morning, by Jonathan Wells

Wonderful spring soundscape out in the field as the sun went down tonight. The main attraction was the woodcock courting displays, close by but barely visible in the low light, except for brief glimpses when they rose above the tree line. The spring peepers were out in the damp area of the woods on both sides, and out on the marsh there was the occasional squawking of ducks and geese settling down for the night. The turkeys were still gobbling away in the distance, which was a nice touch. And all that time the deer were standing there along the edge of the field staring at me, wondering when I might go back inside so they could saunter back to the fresh grass closer to the house.
