Night view from my patio

I decided to try a night scene with a long exposure tonight and this was the result. It looked great on the camera but I'm not so sure about the final result! I need to read up about this and practise!! I was very excited when a car drove by but the image I took was badly over exposed in places.
So I have set myself a challenge to improve!
As you can see from this image, there aren't many cars driving through our village tonight!!
