Ibis on a rail

Ibis are great scavengers, sometimes called ‘bin chickens’ because of their propensity to scavenge food from absolutely any source. According to Google some ibis have even learned to eat cane toads. Apparently the trick is to wash them first.

Ibis are often found in urban areas, wherever there is food to be found. I have had a soft spot for the ibis ever since we saw one in The Rocks (a tourist hub in Sydney) scavenging so enthusiastically that it fell head first into the garbage bin.
