Sweet scented poplar

There is a single mature poplar in our garden and every year at this time, we start sniffing the air to catch a whiff of its delicate perfume. Today, it was a warm, damp day, perfect for catching that special perfume on the breeze. The perfume comes from the delicate catkin-like flowers which soon get blown off in the next strong breeze, so we have to make the most of that special scent while we can. One of the catkin flowers can be seen in the bottom right quadrant of my photo. Soon they will be littering the ground around the base of the tree and the perfume will have disappeared for another year.
