Craftsman houses

Continuing on the theme of the gutting of the middle class and the elimination of "affordable housing," these "Craftsman" houses were built in the late 1920s as middle class homes just a few blocks from the house where Sue has lived for the last 44 years. Each of these houses now goes for about a million, and middle class income is nowhere near sufficient to pay for one. Sue's house was built in 1908, and she bought it in the 1970s, when two school teachers sharing expenses could still afford a house. 

It was pouring rain Sunday so we went to see a  movie--Moving On, with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. We felt the best moments were in the trailer and it just doesn't work. While it's great to see representation of intelligent, rebellious old women (when do we see that in films?), it was written by a man who clearly doesn't understand aging from a woman's point of view, and the underlying issue of rape is much too serious to be handled skillfully as a comedy.
