Bishop Meldrum

The Baroque extravaganza of Bishop Meldrum's buirial aisle in Marnoch Kirkyard. The splendid sandstone tomb was built in 1699 the carvings which include a bust of the Bishop, a detailed skeleton, winged souls and assorted symbols of immortality is thought to be the work of John Faid a local craftsman. The monument is topped by an urn flanked by extraordinary angels playing trumpets.

The splendour of the freestanding monument is marred by the state of dereliction - the weeds, moss, cracked slabs and broken railings of the lower part of the aisle.
