Free Day

Today was a free day and most of our group have gone to Capri. Having spent time in busy Amalfi and Positano, we preferred a quiet day spent locally so after a longer lie in and leisurely breakfast, we packed the rucksack and set out once more on the Path of the Gods to the viewpoint which has fabulous views of the Sorrento Peninsula and enjoyed cuppas at the cafe nestled in the hillside.

We retraced our steps to the beginning of the path, pausing occasionally to blip the many wildflowers of all colours in what is a giant limestone rockery. We then turned another direction to take the Sentiera Pennina down to the Santa Barbara Grottos, huge caves gouged out of the limestone and from there to the village of Furore. En route we said Buon gournio to the shepherd managing this large herd of goats on the terraces.  Yesterday guide Paolo told us the work of looking after the steep terraces is very hard and young people do not want to take it on from their families. The Government is offering abandoned houses and terraces for one euro with the agreement that they will be renovated in order to continue the growth of local produce such as lemons, oranges and olives.

On my blip you can see where we walked the path of the Gods earlier in the day, at the top of the blip and up the hill to the left.

Back in Bomerano we found a cafe selling paninis and sat outside watching life go by.

Better on black.
