Castle Fragenstein

The castle was built between 1200 and 1220 and was a sovereign residence from the beginning.

The Fragenstein dynasty can be traced back for about 100 years. After the extinction of the Fragensteins, the castle was handed over to Otto Charlinger around 1290 and from 1365 to Parzival v. Weineck, who also built the upper (western) tower.

The Tyrolean minnesinger Oswald v. Wolkenstein stayed at the castle twice. After 1423, the castle finally passed to the Tyrolean sovereigns. Frederick II (with the empty pocket) and his son Sigmund (the rich in coin) often stayed at the castle.

Emperor Maximilian I had the castle more comfortably furnished and repeatedly stayed at Fragenstein on the occasion of his hunts.

As a result of the War of the Spanish Succession (Bavarian Rummel), the castle burnt down completely in 1703.

(It got repaired but big parts of the castle dropped down the cliffs side)
{In the background the mountain is Nockspitze, Saile)
