African Jacana (Actophilornis africanus)

Day 17 and we were still down in KwaZulu-Natal on the Indian Ocean Coast at the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, weather has been a bit mixed with big wet squalls sweeping in off the ocean. Not that the rain hampers the kleptomanic tendancies of the Monkeys, After two failed attempts at cooking breakfast due to the Monkeys stealing our bread as soon as it was sliced we decided to head to a Bird Hide we came across the previous day that had a Picnic/Braai site that seemed to be a monkey free zone. After we ate we sat in the hide watching this African Jacana stepping from Lily leaf to Lily leaf across the surface of the lagoon, other birds we saw were a Pied Kingfisher & a Little Grebe and the biggest spider I have ever seen! On the bank opposite a water Buck family and a Buffalo family vied for the best grazing While a huge Kudo looked on.
We got back to the tent to find a troop of them (Monkeys, not Kudo) on top of the Caravan on the pitch opposite, all with a different piece of Tupperware. they had peeled back the velcro join of the awning and completely trashed the interior, eating all the veg and even biting the tinned food puncturing the tins.
