Amelanchier

It was due to be a dry day today so we set off to the lodge with wood stain and brushes. The fencing around the verandah is the part most in need of attention. We gave all the black parts a coat of stain and then I went around all the windowsills. It's unusual to have no visitors at this time of year so I've reserved 2 more weeks for us to get work done on dry days.

At home, the amelanchier is at its best. The bush had to be pruned severely 2 years ago to make room for my home studio/summerhouse. The trouble is, the flowers are only great for a short period and if it rains tomorrow they will be ruined. To photograph the bush in its entirety never seems to do it justice so I've isolated a little branch.

The bush has done well. It came from the Rectory garden nearly 40 years ago when our friends moved out. They wanted it to go to a good home.
