St Pierre, Monieux

The village of Monieux is thought to have been the site of a medieval pogrom at the end of the 11th Century. The Jews were attacked by the French Crusaders.  One woman escaped and fled to Egypt.
Monieux nestles on the flanks of the Gorges de la Nesque (see extra photos), the road is steep and very windy and continues along side the Gorges until one descends to Villes-sur-Auzon (extra photos).  We saw wild boar running into the undergrowth on our way.  Mont Ventoux (1910m) is also in the background of one of the photos.  On the way home we drove through orchards of fruit trees in full bloom.  The last photograph is of a 300 year old mulberry tree, although looking lifeless is still sending out green shoots!
