Loch Maree

A regretful farewell to the Kinlochewe campsite,  softened by a good coffee at the garage/grocery shop/cafe right next door. A lovely drive up the glen according this view, also apparently enjoyed by Queen Victoria who said it was very remote but rather lovely, although little going on. Well, her endorsement soon put paid to that!

The road to Inverness was very easy and the proximity of west to east coast was very apparent. No wonder those gardening ladies from Nairn found it easy to get over for a day trip. In my head I'm still remembering the long journey we took along single track roads and I'd really not considered how much easier it is 55yrs on!

We walked Berry early on at the Bein Eigh nature reserve and then later at Rogie Falls. This is a great spot to watch salmon leaping in season - in fact, we wondered if this is where the Wild Isles documentary team had filmed their amazing underwater footage. It's always mesmerising to watch tumbling water.

Chris wanted to look for sturdy shoes in Inverness so we duly spent a whole 20 minutes sorting that out and then kept on going up to Brora.

A nice small campsite but the weather is definitely on the turn. A stiff, cold breeze and clouds coming in. We're right next to the 12th hole in the golf course but no golf action this late in the day!
