Old House

The MacDonald District is probably the original neighborhood in Santa Rosa. It is filled with homes built during the Victorian era, by wealthy merchants and city fathers, but ornate stick built homes like this one are found all over the San Francisco Bay Area. I especially liked this one with its ornate woodwork and  welcoming porch surrounded by roses in full bloom. The Macdonald District is the crown jewel of Santa Rosa's neighborhoods and the owners of the homes maintain them beautifully.

Walking is something of a challenge for me right now, but far better than standing. I could barely walk when I got out of bed this morning but a hot shower and some careful walking around the house improved things considerably. I did, however, decide it was probably time to establish a relationship with an orthopedist.

After waiting on hold for quite some time, I finally got someone to answer the phone at the orthopedic office where I went many years ago for foot surgery. The foot surgeon is no longer there but there are specialists in other body parts and I chose the knee guy who also turned out to be the one Kathy recommended. After much searching, the operator finally came up with an appointment with the knee specialist at the end of June, but said his assistant could do an initial l consultation on  May 8. I'm hoping that I will have recovered by then, but a consult and an x-ray probably are a good idea anyway, so not taking any chances I made appointments with both of them. The old saw about doctors making you wait until you either die or get better seems to be coming true....

Talking about a calendar full of medical appointments is pretty boring, so I won't.

My sewing machine has to go into the shop before I can do anything more on the current quilt other than a fair amount of hand sewing, which will keep me busy for awhile. The sewing machine shop had an ominous number of machines stacked up in their back room awaiting repair, so I'm hoping this is something he can fix on the spot.
