Contemplating injustice

Frank and I met in the rhododendron garden today to catch up with what has happened in our lives since 2019, which is the last time we saw each other. He’s just back from a ten-day trip to Florence, Italy with his daughter, which is why he was wearing Botticelli’s portrait of Dante on his chest. He said his favorite moment from the trip came when somehow he ended up alone for a while in one of the Medici chapels at the Basilica of San Lorenzo. It was just Frank, the remains of a few Medicis, and some magnificent Michaelangelo sculptures.

“I sat there contemplating the consequences of power and influence. How is it that these third-rate greedy bureaucrats got to be memorialized by Michaelangelo?” He laughed, “Life never has been just.”
