May Day tradition

In Belgium and France there’s a tradition on May Day to give a bunch of lilies of the valley to the women in your household, something that started officially in 1561when King Charles IX offered bouquets of lilies of the valley to all the ladies of his court to usher in Spring. I don’t think I’ll be able to find them anywhere in Perthshire and to be honest the lilies of the valley  in our garden in The Netherlands last week were nowhere near their bloom, it’s just been too cold in March and April this year. So you’ll have to do with an image of them in my Blipfoto journal of 2013  on my iPad at the breakfast table :-)

For today’s MonoMonday theme of ‘tradition’ with thanks to ApolloFly for taking on the hosting in May.

The weather is looking better today, so we’ll try out some more walking today.

Thanks very much for the kind comments and stars for yesterday’s Blip
