Ospreys

Today I went out with the birdwatching group, I don't go every month as it is the same morning as belly dancing.

First we went to Dyfi Osprey Project near Machynlleth in Wales. Ospreys have nested here for some years.  The present occupants of the nest site are Telyn and Idris who have been nesting here for four years. They arrived from Africa in March and have laid three eggs.

We saw them on the nest (extra photo) and Idris left and returned with something small for Telyn to eat.  Then another osprey arrived (main photo) and flew around the nest.  It disappeared and Idris did a patrolling flight around.  The staff recognised him from the markings on his tail - KC1 or 9 who came from another nest in the area but hadn't been seen over the reserve before. My photo isn't the sharpest of my photos but I liked how it showed the colours of it's plumage.

We then went to Ynys Hir Nature Reserve where we sat outside and ate our sandwiches before walking around the reserve.  We only saw Canada Geese and common ducks from the hides but saw sedge and willow warblers, reed buntings and a tree creeper.

It was lovely to see a slow worm which had remains of it's old skin around it's neck, it sheds it's skin in patches.

It was a lovely sunny day and the reserve looked beautiful with carpets of bluebells under the trees.

When we'd finished walking around we had ice creams then set off for home.
