Still Raining

A very soggy Blueboy looks somewhat dejected with the continual rain we've been having but really, he's just checking out the seed bowls waiting his opportunity to swoop in and snag one.  (It's a digital painting.)  Today will be the last rainy one and then we will have a long string of beautiful days.  Our river has breached its banks but so far the flooding in my area isn't too bad.  I was thinking about the phrase "raining cats and dogs" and thought I'd find out its origin, a favorite pastime of mine.  I consulted the largest library in the world, the Library of Congress.  “Cats and dogs” may come from the Greek expression cata doxa, which means “contrary to experience or belief.” If it is raining cats and dogs, it is raining unusually or unbelievably hard. “Cats and dogs” may be a perversion of the now obsolete word catadupe. In old English, catadupe meant a cataract or waterfall."  So, now you know.  Thought you might like to see the weird clouds over Mount Washington the other day.  It's in the extras.
