Purple and orange

A somewhat frustrating day weather-wise, with the BBC and Met Office having very different views on the likelihood of rain. I was supposed to be delivering Alex and Pete to Woodwalton Fen again, but in the end we gave up. Probably just as well as there were some seriously heavy thunderstorms in the afternoon, and when I went out about 2.30 p.m many of the city's roads were shallowly flooded.

I was travelling to meet KP,  to plan a walk we're leading for the John Clare Appreciation Society in September. Despite having driven through heavy rain, we were blessed with warm sunshine, a chorus of birdsong, including my first definite Garden Warbler of the year. and a fleeing Roe Deer.

Back in the garden a male Orange-tip butterfly was making the most of any spells of sunshine to top up its nectar levels.  We still don't seem to have any females, but the Hedge Garlic is only just coming into flower, so I'm sure they'll turn up soon.
