red bottomed worker

The worker have at last arrived.  Each spring i watch and listen for the larger queen bumble bees (all three species here) as they start their hunt for a new underground nesting site. This year it seems, the bumble bees are behind schedule. Normally i can set my watch for the coincidental flowering of both catoniasta and Cyonothis, (Both small flower shrubs) with the first batch of the white bottomed and red bottomed bumble bee workers (smaller version).  They are late, for whatever reason.  Now though they are here. Much quicker Than the male or female (queen) and much harder to photograph. They are the ideal size and weight for the smaller more fragile flower
