Phoenix united mine

Spent the afternoon with my sister who was looking after 3 of her grandchildren.
We went for a walk on Bodmin moor up to phoenix united mine.
The mine started in 1836 extracting copper then changed to tin in 1864. The mine ceased operation in 1898 and the Prince of Wales shaft was closed in 1914.
The area is now an area of SSSI due to the soil being rich with heavy metals which restricts the growth of vascular plants and allows bryophytes to flourish. Rare liverworts and mosses are found here.
Cheesewring can be seen on the top of Stowe's hill in the distance.
The kids enjoyed playing around the ruins
Oh and I heard my first cuckoo of the year
