Day 145 of 365 - Christchurch (Greyfriars) Steeple

Welcome to day 145 of 365 (Finished image after Editing)

The original photo was taken in Coventry City centre. The image is of the Tower and Steeple of Christchurch (or Greyfriars as it is also known). The Steeple / Tower is part of what was originally a Church built in the 13th Century by Franciscan monks known as the Greyfriars. The original church was quite large being about 240 Feet long and 60 Feet wide. The Steeple was a central part of the church which was cruciform shaped. The church was extended and added to over the early years and was notable that the First Mayor of Coventry John Ward was buried in the church in 1348. The church was one of the many victims of the Dissolution of the monasteries during the 16th century, however the Tower / Steeple survived. The church was rebuilt (on a smaller scale) during the 19th century. This however was all but completely destroyed in one of the air raids to strike Coventry during the Second World War. As we can see now from the image it is once again the Steeple / Tower only that survive. This is the third Spire in the Three Spires of which Coventry is now famed. The others Spires being those of the ruined Cathedral of St Michael and Holy Trinity Church.

The Steeple is classed as a Grade II* listed building. It is number 17 on my list of 24 (Grade II*) Listed buildings in Coventry that I hope to photograph.

As always the shot was taken with my iPhone 5. The photo was taken using the camera App ProCamera for iPhone. The original image can be found here: Unedited original Image.

First of all I used the app Handy Photo to edit the image. The edits were made by cloning away the Lamppost and the umbrella style covering from the bottom of the Tower/Steeple. Next I used the app called Photo Copier to apply a reproduction of the tone, texture, grain and detail of the artist Millet's painting called - The Gleaners. After that I used the App Distressed FX to add the extra texture to the image using the Cole overlay and the Savannah Texture. Finally I used an app called Camera Genius to add a Silver Paint style Picture Frame to the picture.
