Black Horse Passage

Number two in the 'Snickelway Series' is Black Horse Passage. One of my favourite snickelways for a number of reasons.

1. It leads from somewhere useful: Stonebow - a street of bus stops; to somewhere picturesque: a quiet, pretty area of the River Foss.
2. It has a striking name, which leads you to believe you might find a gleaming-black Shire horse roaming the passage
3. It has a suitably shady past: located in an area of poverty, crime and prostitution it was a concealed path right into the heart of the red light district.
