The Fodderletter Lum

A free standing chimney stack conveniently sited close to a burn, the Fodderletter Lum is one of two such structures situated to the lonely Grantown to Tomintoul road. It was used in the 1920s and 30s by the gangs of road men whose job it was to maintain the road. They had a portable wooden bothy which was transported on a cart and could be put up against the stone Lum providing so that a fire could be lit whilst the roadmen sheltered for the night.

The road is now part of the 'Snow Road' and crosses very bare, exposed moorland.
