The cormorants are back at their precarious nesting area, a very small outcrop that is just visible from the walking path. Because of a very low tide, the surfer is walking where folks normally have to paddle, creating a strange juxtaposition of birds and people. The Extra gives a better idea of what the distance really is. The birds are quite safe from humans, and only have to worry about each other and the occasional gull.
