The deerhunter

With slightly sore heads we ventured out for our morning's constitutional.

Being surrounded by sheep and cattle, we only ever let Fred off in one place, a pathway that's about half a mile long and deer-fenced and gated on all four sides. Fred bounded off as usual but there followed a piercing shrill scream, Fred and a small Roe deer came flying, neck and neck, through the undergrowth. Fred pounced and caught the deer, much to our horror, and proceeded to go for the jugular. Steve managed to wade in and pull Fred off and the poor, terrified deer limped off after a few stunned moments. Although Fred drew blood, we're pretty sure the deer will be ok. A timely reminder that dogs are never safe off the lead... anywhere.

Apart from that drama, it's been a beautiful day.
