Cleaning lady

This is the lady who does our laundry and housecleaning. Usually quite cheery. She does either laundry or cleaning three times a week for 500 birr a month, which is between $25-30 Can. This is apparently considered more than a fair wage. Some day labourers, we have heard, only earn 37 birr a day, just over $2. For comparison, a bunch of bananas might cost atound 15 birr. I expect you wouldn't buy much fresh produce, or anything imported, if you were living on these wages. Also everyone complains about food, housing and gas price inflation, and I don't know if wages have kept pace with that.
