Rio Tambo, Peru, 1987

We were lucky to meet a man named Lucho (Luis Hurtado) who organised trips to the rainforest. He didn’t do it for commercial reasons but to support indigenous people.  (And he is still doing it now.) He took us to the Rio Tambo which is a tributory of the Amazon. There we were welcomed by the Ashaninka people with whom we spent the next few days. We visited other villages and learned about the way the community benifit from natural medicine and the fruits of the forest. We made good friends with our local boatmen and learned a lot from Lucho. It was a privilege to be there. And we played football one day and danced with local girls another day at a birthday party!
