Cashewnut

Today this week’s long west to east journey across the landscape came to an end when we arrived in Mtwara on the Indian Ocean coast.

The search for lodgings began as it’s often simpler to shun calling ahead and just check a place out and decide whether it’s somewhere to lay one’s head. I saw a sign for Cashewnut (enjoying the use of cashewnut as one word) Hotel and was disappointed we didn’t stop there. Happy Lodge didn’t impress us, so we wound up at Luxurious (a misnomer) Hotel.

I ate curry and drank beer with the visiting donor. This was a nice way to relax and a good sign that even after a packed week without downtime, we were happy to continue discussions in each other’s company.

Incidentally I did purchase some bags of cashew nuts from the roadside. They are produced in great volumes in this lowland and coastal region of the country, and the Mtwara crop is crunchy, tasty and cheap.
