On Guard

Rain due soon, I took my chance. I tried unsuccessfully to photograph swallows in flight over the lake, they are just too quick. This tree swallow stayed on top of their box for ages. Maybe partner inside, or out feeding. Anyway, I was able to get quite close without causing stress.

I cropped the image with the bird in one corner and all the space above it. Although rather static looking in the shot, the swallow was constantly looking up and around, perhaps for any signs of incoming attackers, or maybe the return of its mate.

Love the iridescent blue.
