Fleetwood

In the early 18th century the coastline of Fleetwood was covered by sand hills and this was the highest hill.
Sir Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood was planning a new, purpose-built town and he decided this hill would be used as the focal point for his design.
In 1836 he built a wooden pagoda as a kind of summer house.
In the early 1900s that was replaced by the the current two-storey pavilion.  It is a striking octagonal design with a copper dome on the roof.  The clock is dedicated to the Fleetwood men who fought and lost their lives during World War I - this is now a registered war memorial.
