If you can't beat them...

Small White Butterfly ( Pieris rapae )

A much better day than the weather forecast would have suggested.  Warm and sunny most of the day if a bit windy as the day went on.  Yesterday I bought some Tomato plants.  Somebody is thinking "that's a bit late".  Well, it would be if they were the size of plants you see in garden centres, these are nothing like that.  A local lady grows masses of Tomato plants for the village plant sale, they are always very large healthy plants.  So today I got them into the ground.  Even using Bob Flowerdew's (Gardeners question time Radio 4) advice of planting them deep, up to the first true leaves, they were still so large I had to tie them to the supports.

While going back and forward to the greenhouse I noticed a white butterfly.   When it stopped on the "Jack by the Hedge"  (also known as Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata )).  At first I thought it was a female Orange Tip as that is a food plant for them, it turned out to be a male Small White.
