Edenhall Hospital

About 10 minutes walk up the road is the old NHS Lothian Edenhall Hospital, which closed in 2010, In the years we have lived here, I have never investigated the site, as I thought people weren’t allowed there, however, it appears is ok for people to wander round the grounds (see below). Actually, you just need to go through the unlocked front pedestrian gate.

Since then it has remained abandoned with interest being shown by builders who want to buy and build on the 13 acre site. The latest building interest from a builder was however withdrawn in 2019, the gossip is that there are access issues for any new housing estates. Anyway, it’s up for sale again and here’s a link to the Brochure

In the local East Lothian Courier (01/05/23), Morag Campbell, director of facilities at NHS Lothian, commented:

There has been a number of interested parties since Edenhall Hospital closed in 2010 and was placed up for sale in 2016.

It remains under offer and has 24/7 security in place, including CCTV.

“We also value our relationship with locals who regularly use the grounds for dog walking and report any issues or concerns.”

A very interesting place to wander round, however, a bit creepy at night maybe!

I hope you have had a good day so far.
