A return visit ...

... to The Hidden Lane this time to see the exhibition of pioneering photographer Margaret Watkins at the Hidden Lane Gallery
Born in Hamilton, Ontario she was a professional photographer, artist and lecturer in New York in the 1920s and 30s with exhibitions in America, Europe and Russia. She moved to Glasgow in the late 30s for family reasons and gave no indication to anyone of her previous life. A small Saratoga trunk was left with her neighbour Joe Mulholland with the stipulation that it was not to be opened until after her death. She died in 1969 at which time 1200 photographs detailing her work were discovered. Joe has spent the time since publicising her impressive collection around America and Europe with a permanent collection in his studio in Glasgow.
