Flight things

When I was at school I studied German and I was alright at it. It was a school that based its curriculum on the theories of an Austrian philosopher so there was a lot of German about......It's a very expressive language and also a headily literal one. There's 'Fleischer' = butcher - literally 'flesher'. 'Krankenhaus' = hospital - literally 'house in which to be ill'. 'Krankenwagen' = ambulance - literally 'vehicle in which to be ill'. 'Fernsehen' = to watch TV - literally 'to see far'. And my fave 'Flugzeug' = aeroplane - literally 'flight thing'....!
