Basket Funngi

Well I was astounded today to learn that the basket fungus (ileodictyon cibarium) that I was photographing is edible.  I got talking to a gentleman who was walking through the cemetery  where I found this.  He told me that his ancestors used to soak them in running water for a couple of days, before baking them over hot coals.


Though he did admit that he's never eaten them.  I'm not going to either.


Anyway, I spotted this particular example growing under the pines at the cemetery and I just had to take its photo.
