I’m no royalist, but Mum has celebrated every major royal event through her life so in an effort to not let her feel left out of this one we invited her and Dad round to ours for a coronation lunch. She made her trademark ‘Kertruffle Salad’ (not it’s proper name, as that got lost in translation years ago) which is some sort of German/Polish/Jewish side dish (which consists of potatoes, chopped gherkins, chopped eggs, chopped onions, sour cream and mayo) that my gran used to make for every family-gathering buffet. She also brought Tupperware boxes full of other stuff for a lovely buffet lunch. Dad wasn’t exactly brimming with excitement about celebrating the coronation, but he was still very appreciative because he knew it was something that Mum really wanted to do. We had a lovely afternoon and the weather was good, so it was bonus points all round I think.

Mum and Dad left around 7 ish so we cleared all remnants of royal reference and settled down to a bit of online holiday hunting and an early night ready to make the most of the extra bank holiday tomorrow.
