Newspaper cutting 1966

My mother had used a sheet of newspaper from The Scotsman, dated Saturday, 9th July, 1966, to line a drawer that I started emptying today.

How newspapers have changed in the last 57 years! It made fascinating reading. It happened to be the day BBC2 was first transmitted in Scotland. David Attenborough was Controller. He has been around for a long time, hasn't he?!

I was highly entertained by the article on the left about Bell Baxter High School pupils, with the rector complaining about  "slovenly speech, inaudible mumbling and the glottal stop." Oh dear, Dr James Dunlop must be turning in his grave!

And I see the Tories were complaining back then too.

Some things never change... ;-)
