Ruffled Beauty

I visited Schreiner's Iris Gardens during the blooming season a few years ago and ordered Iris bulbs. I enjoy the beauty and delicate fragrance of this Iris. These flowers remind me of my mother who loved to garden, as well as Vincent Van Gough and his exuberant paintings of Iris.

According to Wikipedia, "The agricultural richness [of the Willamette Valley] is partly due to the Missoula Floods that inundated the valley approximately 40 times between 15,000 and 13,000 years ago at the end of the last ice age...The floodwaters carried rich volcanic and glacial soil from Eastern Washington and deposited across the valley floor when the waters subsided.
