midwife crisis

By lulubelle

Serene sunset end to a frazzled day. Spent a large portion of the ( beautiful sunny ) day with my friend whose horse was in a bad way. Out of the blue she developed serious photosensitivity on her white muzzle, wounds and welts oozing and crusty and obviously really painful and very swollen, she was head pressing , yawning and quite closed down. Couldn’t eat. Took calls to 3 different vets to get someone out to her. A young vet was very cautious and thought liver disease and possible euthanasia !! FFS. I see some inexperienced Drs do this in hospital and go straight to worse case scenario instead of let’s start with the basics and read the patient holistically . Any way bloods were taken and it wasn’t liver disease , prob a severe reaction to Hog weed. But the poor horse did required pain killers and wounds management . She was managing to eat a little hay by the end of the day and her eyes were brighter . Exhausting stuff .
