All the colours

I walked in the Lake Ainsworth heathland this afternoon, and was pleased to find lots of Rainbow Bee-eaters. They really are the most colourful little birds. The flash of copper colour in flight is remarkable.

It's now three years since we moved to live full-time in the Northern Rivers region, and I'm slowly learning about seasonal movements of birds in the local area. I feel that the Bee-eaters have been less common in recent months, perhaps migrating south in summer. They now seem to have moved north for winter. Lots of humans are doing the same.

This bird is a male, with two long tail feathers. The female has much shorter tail feathers.
